How to Protect Your Home Network
There are four basic steps you can take to help protect your network:
-
Use a firewall to control access to your network, block intruders from finding the data on your private network, and control what your employees can access outside of your network.
-
Use strong passwords which have at least eight characters; use a combination of lower and upper case letters, numbers and symbols; and are changed at least every 90 days.
-
Turn on wireless security features that are not automatically enabled by manufacturers (because it makes the network easier to set up).
-
Close unnecessary network ports by using a combination of dedicated firewalls, host-based firewalls or Internet Protocol Security filters.
